Anuradha Bali 'Fiza' found dead, suicide suspected

Clean Media Correspondent

Chandigarh, August 06 (CMC) Anuradha Bali, estranged wife of former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan, was on Monday found dead at her residence in Mohali.

The body of 39-year-old Bali alias Fiza Mohammad, a former assistant advocate general of Haryana, was found lying on her bed in her residence with several insects roaming over it, SHO Kulbir Singh said.
A senior police officer said the body found in a ground floor bedroom was in a decomposed state and preliminary inquiry showed that she may have died four to five days back.

"At this stage nothing can be stated on whether it is a case of suicide," the officer said.

No suicide note has so far been recovered, police said.

Police later said they would take a definitive view once the post-mortem report was received.

The police were called to her house by her uncle after neighbours complained of a foul smell from her house.

"The police broke open the door. Her body was in a bad shape with insects all over," Fiza's uncle Satpal said.

The neighbours told the police that she seemed to be depressed for the past few months, especially after her mother passed away.

She had been living alone in the house. She had several arguments and fights with neighbours in the area in the past couple of years and she was even arrested in this regard.

Bali hogged limelight after her marriage with Chander Mohan a few years back when he was deputy chief minister of Haryana.

However, after his controversial marriage Chander Mohan was disowned by his father and former chief minister Bhajan Lal.

Originally known as Anuradha Bali and a lawyer by profession at the Punjab and Haryana high court, she was an assistant advocate general with the Haryana government till 2008.

She had gone missing in November 2008 along with then Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan. They reappeared in early December 2008 as a married couple after embracing Islam. They got secretly married in Meerut city in Uttar Pradesh.

Both changed their names from Chander Mohan and Anuradha Bali to Chand Mohammed and Fiza.

Following the controversy over his affair and second marriage, Chander Mohan, elder son of three-time Haryana chief minister and political strongman Bhajan Lal, lost his job in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government.

The marriage lasted hardly 40 days with Chander Mohan suddenly leaving her house January 28, 2009 and not communicating with her at all.

Using technology over long distance, Chander Mohan telephoned Fiza in March 2009 on her mobile and divorced her by saying "Talaq, Talaq, Talaq" three times.

Fiza later told reporters that Chand called her up from London and uttered "talaq" three times. He also sent her a SMS to confirm that he was divorcing her.

She had earlier filed a complaint of rape, cheating, intimidation and hurting religious sentiments against Chander Mohan. However, he was given a clean chit by the Mohali police. He had described her complaint as "nothing more than toilet paper".

Chander Mohan later did a volte-face June 2009 and arrived at her house. He even apologised to her and told the media that he had never divorced her.

"I never left, I still love her and I wanted to spend rest of my life with her. I am ready to leave everything, even my family, for her sake. I was under immense pressure and was bound with some prior commitments when I left her house," Chander Mohan had told Clean Media after returning.

However, within days he deserted her again and later underwent Hindu prayers at his hometown Hisar in Haryana to re-convert to Hinduism.

Both had not been in touch since then.

Fiza had later appeared in a TV reality show shot in Malaysia.

Sources said that she was planning to join BSP.

Chander Mohan had recently buried his differences with his younger brother Kuldeep Bishnoi and joined the HJC headed by the latter.

In the 2009 assembly elections in Haryana, Fiza had vigorously campaigned against the Bhajan Lal family which was contesting from Adampur in Hissar district.

US gurdwara shooting suspect described as tall, bald with 9/11 tattoo

Clean Media Correspondent

Oak Creek (USA), August 06 (CMC) Authorities said a tall, bald, white man in his 40s opened fire just before services had begun, entering the kitchen at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in suburban Milwaukee at about 10:30am CDT (1530 GMT) as women prepared a Sunday meal, sending worshippers fleeing to escape the barrage.

The gunman killed six people and critically wounded three at a Sikh temple before police shot him dead in an attack authorities are treating as an act of domestic terrorism.

Some witnesses said he had a 9/11 tattoo, marking the September 11, 2001 attacks by Islamic militants.

"He had tattoos, I don't know what the exact markings were, or if they represented any of his beliefs or what they stood for," said Thomas Ahern, a spokesman for the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Four people were shot dead inside the sprawling temple. Three more, including the gunman, were killed outside.

The gunman ambushed and shot a police officer who was responding to a 911 call and helping a shooting victim, Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards said. A second officer shot and killed the gunman.

The wounded officer, a 20-year veteran, was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. Hospital officials said two other victims, also in critical condition, were being treated.

The FBI has begun investigating Sunday's attack on a gurdwara in a Milwaukee suburb that left seven people dead, including the shooter, as an act of domestic terrorism but no motive has been determined.

FBI officials also confirmed Sunday night that they are investigating a home in Cudahy, Wisconsin - presumably that of the  shooter - in relation to the incident, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

The FBI said on Sunday it had joined a probe of a shooting at the suburban Sikh temple, that left seven people dead, including the gunman.

"The FBI is working closely with the Oak Creek Police Department and other local and federal agencies to investigate today's shooting incident," FBI Milwaukee Special Agent in Charge Teresa Carlson said in a statement.

Authorities did not release the name of the suspect. They said the shooter had used a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, which was recovered at the scene. Officials were tracing origin of the weapon, Ahern said.

Police surrounded and searched a gray, two-storey house in the Cudahy neighborhood, presumed to be the residence of the gunman on Sunday evening.

Generators and floodlights were set up along the middle-class block.

A police source confirmed that a search warrant had been issued for the house, and a bomb squad was on the scene.

Temple member and US Army Reserve combat medic Jagpal Singh, 29, said people who were at the service when the shooting broke out described to him a scene of chaos and confusion.

Worshippers scrambled to escape the gunfire, but some tragically ran in the wrong direction. Others survived the rampage by locking themselves in bathrooms, he said.

Singh said eyewitnesses described the shooter as a white man who was either shave-headed or bald.

A man who dropped his father off at the temple, known to Sikhs as a "gurudwara," said he saw the shooter -- described as a tall white man with a bald head -- kill two people in the parking lot.

"Then he went down inside the temple and then went into the room where the holy scripture is kept and basically shot more people there, multiple people there," said Singh, a combat medic in the US Army reserve.

Witnesses told Singh it was "a horrible place, a lot of blood and basically screams of everybody. Children, women, everybody. It was chaotic inside. People didn't know what was going on."

"Our priest, he's dead. One of my friends' grandfathers, he's dead. It's a very close-knit community. No matter who's hurt, we're all family," Harinder Kaur, a 22-year-old student, told Clean Media.

Factory worker Navreet Raman, 42, said: "It's terrorizing. It's our worship place. If church is not a safe place, what is? Nothing is safe."

Raman said it had been lucky that the shooting had taken place at 10:30am (1530 GMT) -- in the morning -- as the temple would later have been crowded with more than 300 people for afternoon services.

Anna Hazare disbands ‘Team Anna’
Clean Media Correspondent

New Delhi, August 06 (CMC) Days after Anna Hazare promised to provide a ‘political alternative’ to the nation; the veteran social activist announced on Monday that his team, popularly referred to as Team Anna, has been disbanded. However, he did not clearly specify whether they were going to immediately announce formation of a party though he talked about the procedures for setting up the alternative.

Writing in his blog, Anna Hazare said Team Anna was formed to get the Jan Lokpal Bill passed, however now that it has been decided by the group not to engage with the government on the issue.

"The government is not ready to enact Jan Lokpal Bill. How long and how many times we will go on fast? Now people have asked us to leave fast and give an alternative. I also thought that the government is not going to curb corruption...,” he said.

"We are now stopping the activities of Team Anna today. Team Anna was formed to fight for Jan Lokpal. We have also decided not to have any more talks with the government. From today, there will be no Team Anna or Team Anna Core Committee," Anna added.

Anna opined that Jantar Mantar is not the whole of the country and hence there is a need to seek the opinion of the people of India.

Importantly, a new ‘election committee’ has been set up to oversee the possible entry of the group into electoral politics. The members of the new panel are: Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Kiran Bedi, Prashant Bhushan, Kumar Vishwas, Sanjay Singh and Yogendra Yadav.

Team Anna had last week - on August 03- announced that it would join the political mainstream to continue its fight against corruption.

Anna Hazare had spelled out the contours of the political alternative and said that it would be a "movement" to put an end to the "Delhi-centric government" and take governance to the villages and the people.

Since April last year, Team Anna has been on streets with Anna going on indefinite fast four times and one-day fasts also four times besides being part of a joint committee to draft the Lokpal Bill.

मिशन मंगल कामयाब, नासा को मिलने लगीं तस्वीरें

Dyhu ehfM;k laoknnkrk

Advani has conceded defeat for 2014 LS polls: Congress, SP

Clean Media Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Aug 05 (CMC): Congress and other parties today took a dig at BJP leader L K Advani saying he has conceded defeat even before the race has begun for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections while some BJP leaders differed with him.
Reacting to Advani's latest blog posting, Congress said Advani has given up the fight by casting doubts over his party's ability.
"I can say about this blog that Advani himself has conceded defeat by saying there is a possibility that there can't be a BJP Prime Minister in 2014. It means he has conceded defeat," Congress leader Rajiv Shukla told reporters here.
After this blog, how will a BJP candidate win? he asked. Advani had similarly predicted defeat for Congress before 2004 and 2009 elections but it came to power both the times, he said.
Terming the BJP leader as a "reluctant general" going to war, Shukla said, "If anybody is reluctant then how can anyone win the war. What kind of a general is he who concedes defeat even before the battle?"
Another Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi said Advani's statement reflected internal rift in his party and recalled the predictions made by him before 2004 and 2009 elections.
BJP National Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said there is a strong anti-Congress wave blowing in the country and BJP and NDA will get majority.
Samajwadi Party leader Mohan Singh also toed the line taken by Shukla and said, "Even before the elections, BJP has conceded defeat."
Sharad Yadav, who heads the JD-U, an NDA ally, refused to indulge in speculation ahead of the 2014 polls.
But, JD-U leader from Bihar Neeraj Kumar said, "We need a secular leader as PM and one who is sympathetic towards the cause of the backward classes."
Advani had in his blog today talked about the possibility of a non-Congress, non-BJP Prime Minister heading the government after the 2014 general elections with the help of these two principal parties.
He also cited examples of Charan Singh, Chandrashekhar, H D Deve Gowda and I K Gujral - all supported by Congress - as well as V P Singh who became Prime Minister with BJP support.

Providing alternative not easy, but not impossible too: Anna

New Delhi, Aug 05 (CMC): Charging the government of not willing to rid the country of corruption, Anna Hazare on Sunday asked the people to pledge support to a party which provides for a political alternative and vote for their candidates. Returning to blogging after his fast that ended last week, Anna said the country needs an alternative and the gram sabhas should pass a resolution to this effect, besides ensuring that more than 90% voters exercise their franchise.
"You need lots of money to fight election these days. Where will the money come from if one wants to provide an alternative by fighting elections?"
"All the six lakh gram sabhas in the country should pass a resolution that they will support the alternative and will vote for the party which will provide for this alternative... if such a resolution is passed, then we will be able to give an alternative," Hazare said in his blog.
He said youth and students should tour villages to awaken them and get this resolution passed. "The gram sabhas should also pass a resolution committing that more than 90% of its voters will exercise their franchise," he said.
Noting that providing an alternative is not an easy job, he said it is also not an impossible job.
"But I want to emphasis that I will not contest election or form a party. I will tour the country to awaken people and ensure that good people go to Parliament. I think that people will welcome the alternative as they are suffering due to corruption," he said.
He alleged that those in government have been intoxicated by power and money and they will not provide a corruption-free country.

New Delhi, Aug 05 (CMC) BJP today said there is no rift among NDA partners on the issue of Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections and the matter will be decided collectively within the alliance.

"There are no issues or differences in BJP... There is no question of any internal rift in NDA or BJP. Before the elections, BJP and NDA will decide under whose leadership we will fight the elections," BJP's National Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

Naqvi was replying to a question on the sidelines of the party's 'Chintan Baithak' (brainstorming session) here on reports of growing rift within NDA over the issue of Prime Ministerial candidate in the 2014 general elections.

Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar had earlier expressed reservation over the candidature of his Gujarat counterpart and BJP leader Narendra Modi for the top post.

BJP President Nitin Gadkari had said on Friday that he had discussed the issue of NDA's Prime Ministerial candidate with Kumar and assured him that no decision has yet been taken on Modi being the party's choice for it.

Olympics 2012: Can't believe match is over and I won, says Saina

Clean Media Correspondent

London,04 Aug (CMC) Shuttler Saina Nehwal who earned India its third medal at the London Games, said she couldn't believe the match is over and she won.
Stating that it was her dream to see the Indian flag go up, Nehwal stated that she had never won a match like that before.
She said that she would get back into training tomorrow.
Nehwal clinched a bronze under fortuitous circumstances as her opponent and world number two Xin Wang of China conceded the third-place play off match due to a knee injury after winning the first game.
The fourth seeded Indian had saved four game points in a dramatic fightback and was 18-20 when left-handed Xin twisted her knee while going for an acrobatic smash from the baseline and took on-court treatment for the injury.
However, she was back on the court after wrapping her left knee in bandage and immediately attacked Saina's serve to win the point and the game to be 1-0 up.
But after winning the first point in the second game, Xin could not continue and was wincing in pain before shaking hands with Saina to concede the match and the bronze medal to the 22-year-old Indian ace.
Saina thus became the first Indian badminton player to win a medal at the Olympic Games. She had reached the quarterfinals in Beijing Games four years ago and lost in the semifinals yesterday to gain a chance to play for the bronze today at the Wembley Arena.
This was the second day running that India have won a medal, following pistol shooter Vijay Kumar's silver medal yesterday.

Mumbai, August 04 (CMC) In a major breakthrough, Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal, the alleged handler of terrorists who attacked the city on November 26, 2008, has named four Indian operatives of Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) who have been in Pakistan for long.
Two of them are from Beed in Maharashtra where Jundal hails from, the third is from Jammu, while the native place of the fourth operative is not yet known. The crime branch of Mumbai police has already scoped the areas where the operatives from Beed resided.

Sources in the crime branch said that though Jundal says the four were not part of the 26/11 terror attack, they are verifying the claim.
The four are — Abu Sherjil and Abu Jarar from Beed, Abu Musab from Jammu, who, along with Jundal, is an accused in the 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case. The fourth person is Abu Jaid alias Lal Baba, who has been booked in the plot to blow up the Nashik police academy.
Sources said that Jundal was not aware of the two persons from Beed in the LeT set up. “He met the two in Pakistan, and it was after that that he was in touch with all the four throughout his stay in that country,” sources said.
Jundal has also given a detailed description of LeT’s organisational structure and its hierarchy in Pakistan. He has revealed details of the terror outfit’s commanders, and the area of their operations. He has named several foot-soldiers who are Pakistani nationals.
“Names of several other Pakistani operatives who are part of the anti-India operations has also been revealed,” a source said.
Jundal is in the custody of Mumbai police’s crime branch in the 26/11 terror attack case. Jundal, who was trained by the LeT in 2006, was present in the Karachi control room during the 26/11 carnage.
Two calls made by Jundal during the attack to the two terrorists in Chabbad House were intercepted by the central intelligence agencies. Jundal’s voice sample has been sent to the state forensic science laboratory in Kalina for matching with the voice in the calls.

The 20-year-old had won 13-11 over Errol Spence in a thrilling contest last night but following an appeal by his rival's team management, the AIBA awarded the bout 15-13 to the American.
"There were a total of nine (9) holding fouls committed by the Indian boxer in the third round alone. However the Referee only gave one caution," the AIBA said in a statement after a review by its Competition Jury.
"In the second round, at the time 02:38, the boxer from India spitted out his gumshield intentionally. However the Referee didn't give any warning," it added.
Based on these "findings", the jury members "unanimously" decided to award Spence four points, thereby making him the winner.
"Based on the AIBA Technical & Competition Rules 12.1.9, the Referee should have given at least two (2) warnings to the Indian boxer. Although the boxer from India intentionally spitted out his gumshield, the Referee's view was blocked by the boxer from the USA and was not able to see the action," it international body said.
"...at least four points should have been awarded to the boxer from the USA. Therefore, the final score should be 13:15 in favour of the USA. The protest is accepted and the winner of Bout 142 is Errol Spence (USA)," the AIBA statement added.
Vikas, only the second Indian boxer after Vijender to fetch a bronze medal in the World Championship, was among the biggest medal prospects for the country.
Earlier, India were at the wrong end of the AIBA review system when the country's appeal against the close opening-round loss of Sumit Sangwan (81kg) was rejected by the world body's competition jury.
Boxing at the ongoing Olympics has been marred by several controversies with AIBA's scoring system coming under severe criticism.
Two judges have been suspended so far after protests by participating teams.
Meanwhile, Spence has moved into the quarterfinals to face Russia's Andrey Zamkovoy on Tuesday.

After Team Anna's decision of political party, Sangh Parivar may rethink strategy
Clean Media Correspondent

New Delhi, August 04 (CMC) As Team Anna gets set to take the political plunge, sources say that the Sangh Parivar may do a rethink on its support to the activists and may rework its own strategy. According to sources, Sangh Parivar, which includes parties like the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh or RSS, is worried that Team Anna may occupy the anti-corruption plank. Team Anna has been championing the anti-graft legislation - the Lokpal Bill - since last year.
The Sangh Parivar has concerns over Anna campaigning in the upcoming elections, especially with state assembly elections scheduled in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh later this year. Both states have a BJP-led government. The sources add the Sangh Parivar has put all its support systems for Team Anna on hold for now. Top leaders from BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh may meet soon to discuss their future course of action over Team Anna.
Before ending its hunger fast in Delhi on Friday, Team Anna announced at Jantar Mantar they are forming a political party which will contest the elections. However, Anna Hazare, 75, said he will not run for office, but will support his aides.

It was Anna's right-hand man, Arvind Kejriwal, visibly weak after a ten-day hunger strike, who announced the activists' political agenda. "You will name our party," he told the crowd at Anna's sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar."
In a lengthy speech before ending his 10-day hunger strike, Mr Kejriwal elaborated on what the new party will stand for - transparency, better education, secularism, the poor farmer, the ripped-off aam admi. "This party will not be like others...the public will decide our agenda. We don't want to win elections...we want to challenge the existing parties. The donations we receive will be posted on our website...this will dare the others to follow," he added. (Watch: Arvind Kejriwal's speech)
Some supporters of Anna have warned that a formal entry into politics is more likely to end as a mis-step rather than a game-changer. "One has to think a 100 times before taking a plunge into electoral politics. If he joins politics, then the momentum gained should not be lost. When people with noble intentions join politics, either they don't last long or they don't achieve much," said activist Medha Patkar.

"I don't think Team Anna should get into politics because we are not ready for elections," said Justice Santosh Hegde, who has been a core member of Anna's group, but has often differed with the others on their tactics.

However, Mr Kejriwal said on Friday that if the government agrees to urgently pass the ant-corruption Lokpal Bill and introduce electoral reforms like the Right to Recall under-performing MPs and the Right to Reject unworthy candidates and nullify an election, Team Anna will cancel its plans.
Team Anna says that the government has proved it has no interest in cleansing the country of graft. The activists believe the antidote lies in the Lokpal Bill, which Anna brought onto the big stage with him through a series of hunger strikes last year. The longest, in August, lasted 16 days, and made Anna the centrifugal force in a middle-class push against corruption. Anna ignored appeals from the Prime Minister and others to end his fast; he relented only after MPs promised to urgently debate the Lokpal Bill, which provides the blueprint for a national ombudsman agency with the powers to investigate and prosecute government servants.
The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha last year, but has tripped in the Rajya Sabha. Anna's activists say without it, there is no chance of reintroducing probity in the governing class.

Team Anna announces political party, Anna Hazare says he won't contest

Clean Media Correspondent

New Delhi, August 03 (CMC) Team Anna officially announced their entry into politics as they ended their 10-day fast at Jantar Mantar on Friday. Making the announcement at Jantar Mantar, Arvind Kejriwal said that the team would not take the move to Parliament.
Kejriwal also assured the people that efforts would be made to keep the functioning of the political party transparent, adding that people would be given a chance to select their own candidates. He further asked the people to suggest a name for the party.
"We will make all our donations and spending public and challenge other parties to do the same. Our candidates will be decided by people, we will challenge others to do the same," said Kejriwal.

The Team Anna member said that the party would not have any high command.
Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, however, made it clear that he would not contest any election, but said that he would back his team’s party.
“I will not form a party. I will not contest in any elections. But I am ready to provide an alternative to the people of this country because people like VK Singh and other eminent people have given us encouragement,” said Anna.
Anna also said that he would travel across the country to make the people aware.
Justifying the decision of Team Anna to join politics, the veteran social activist said that they were challenged by the government itself to come into Parliament.
The announcement came after the government ignored Team Anna's demand for a probe against 15 Union ministers.
Another highlight of the day at Jantar Mantar was retired Army Chief General VK Singh, who extended his full support to the political movement by Team Anna.
The former army chief, at whose hand Anna Hazare broke his fast, addressed the gathering earlier saying there was no governance in the country.
Singh said, “There are many problems in the country, one of that is black money... the governance is finished and we are directionless."
He further said that Team Anna must be prepared to face "opposition from those who do not believe in democracy."
While the political parties have mocked Team Anna since Thursday over their decision to join politics, former aide Swami Agnivesh slammed them for deciding to break the fast and go political.
He said, "Anna has broken the sanctity of 'anshan' (fast). Anshan is always the last option. This is a black day."
"Calling off the anshan and looking at an alternative political option has hurt the dignity of the fast that was introduced by Mahatama Gandhi. They should apologise to the country to have used the sentiments of the country," Agnivesh said.
Team Anna has, however, remained firm on its decision to go political saying they were left with no other option as the government did not intend to listen to them.
"The same people who challenged us to a political fight are now saying we have political ambitions. We had no choice but to provide a political alternative," said Team Anna member and Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan.
Another key member, Manish Sisodia said, "We realised that the government was not listening to us. Look what has happened to Irom Sharmila, she was force fed for years. The government has many ways of ignoring people's opinions. The voice of the people does not matter to the government."
