Abu Jundal in crime branch custody

Clean Media Correspondent

Mumbai July 22 (CMC) Terror suspect Abu Jundal, who was brought to Mumbai on Friday, was produced in the Esplanade Court a day later on Saturday. The Mumbai Crime Branch sought custody of Jundal in the court stating that he was a key conspirator in the 26/11 terror attacks.

At the time of attack at crucial installations, Jundal was allegedly instructing the terrorists from a control room in Karachi and Kasab had mentioned Jundal’s name in his confession. Crime branch officials said that Jundal will have to be interrogated alongside Kasab and other conspirators in the terror attack case.

Following this, Jundal’s custody was handed over to the crime branch till July 31.

Later in the day, Himanshu Roy, joint commissionner of police (crime), said that three teams have been formed to probe various aspects of the 26/11 case.

One team would be assigned for interrogation purposes, another for paperwork and the third for investigation trips outside Maharashtra as and when needed. A 50-member strong team comprising policemen and doctors will be involved in the probe.

Jundal will be interrogated by a special interrogation team and his voice sample would be examined. His every movement will be monitored with CCTV cameras installed in the cell while a team of policemen will monitor the footage round the clock. Another team will inspect his food.

“To avoid any security risks, his medical examination will be done within the premises of the crime branch office. He would be kept under multiple layers of security with Quick Response Team commandos around him,” Roy stated.

Jundal was arrested by the Intelligence Bureau in Saudi Arabia on June 25 and was deported to Delhi where he was lodged in a high security special cell office of the Delhi police. The Delhi police has not shown his involvement in the 26/11 case yet.

Jundal is the fourth person arrested in connection with the 26/11 attacks. Fahim Ansari, Sabbauddin Ahmed and Ajmal Kasab were arrested before him.

Ansari and Ahmed, however, were let off by the court while Kasab was convicted. Interestingly, Jundal’s name is not in the list of 35 people who are wanted in the 26/11 case.
