New Delhi, Dec 27 (CMC)  The condition of the 23-year-old victim of the gang rape in a bus in New Delhi continued to be critical after she was flown to a Singapore hospital on Wednesday.
“Prior to her arrival, she has already undergone three abdominal surgeries, and experienced a cardiac arrest in India,” Kelvin Loh, chief executive of Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital, said in a statement on Thursday evening.
“A multi-disciplinary team of specialists is taking care of her and doing everything possible to stabilize her condition,” the CEO said.
The patient had suffered a pulmonary embolism leading to a cardiac arrest and her infections were not yet contained, said an official of the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi, where she was being treated. The official declined to be named.
She remained unconscious on Wednesday before being shifted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital, known for its expertise in multi-organ transplants. The hospital is working closely with the Indian high commission in Singapore to provide the woman with the best medical attention.
On 16 December, the medical student was raped and brutally beaten up by six men in a moving bus while she was returning home with a male friend after watching a movie. All the six have been since arrested by the police.
