‘Will take up Guru mercy plea after winter session’
Clean Media Correspondent
New Delhi, Dec 10 (CMC) Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde indicated Monday that a decision on the mercy petition of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru would not be taken before the winter session of Parliament ends on December 21.
“The President has returned seven cases of mercy petitions to the Home Ministry. This includes the case of Afzal Guru. The President wanted that since a new home minister had taken charge since the ministry last recommended a rejection of Afzal Guru’s plea, it would be better that the case be examined by the new minister,” Shinde said.
“Because of the Parliament session, I have not been able to devote my attention to these cases. Once the session is over, I will decide what has to be done with each of these cases,” he said.
