Ruckus in Kerala Assembly, woman guard hurt
Clean Media Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 14 (CMC) The Kerala Assembly today witnessed a ruckus, in which a woman guard was allegedly injured, after Opposition LDF members protested over police action on student activists in Kozhikode earlier this week.
The Speaker G Karthikeyan adjourned the House for the day following the disruption of proceedings after the Zero Hour.
Coming out of the House, Rural Development Minister K C Joseph and Government Chief Whip P C George accused CPI(M) members T V Rajesh and James Mathew of attacking a woman security personnel.
They demanded that the Speaker should initiate action against the two MLAs.
Condemning the incident, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the incident was a "slur" on the high democratic traditions of Kerala.
Rajesh and Mathew, however, refuted the charge and told reporters that in fact it was them who were manhandled by the guard staff.
CPI-M leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan demanded suspension of a police officer who allegedly fired at agitating Students' Federation of India (SFI) activists at Kozhikode Government Engineering College on October 10.
As Chandy declined to comply with the LDF demand holding that the government is waiting for a report from the Additional Chief Secretary who heads the probe, the Opposition members rushed to the well of the House shouting slogans.
A woman security guard was caught in the melee and was allegedly hurt.
The LDF had been staging protests in the House since Tuesday demanding action against the officer for allegedly firing at the agitating students.
