CRPF man killed, 7 hurt in Guwahati explosion

Guwahati, Sep 09 (CMC) One CRPF personnel was killed and seven others, including a few civilians, were injured in a powerful grenade explosion at Paltanbazar in the heart of Guwahati Saturday evening.

The incident occurred within a few metres from the Paltan Bazar police station on the southern side of the Guwahati railway station at around 7.40 pm.

While the identity of the miscreants was yet to be ascertained, Guwahati City SSP AP Tiwari said the miscreants had definitely targeted a CRPF picket close to the railway station in the busy Paltanbazar area in order to make an impact.

Kamrup (Metro) district deputy commissioner A Agnihotri said one of the CRPF men who was injured in the explosion died after being admitted to the GMC Hospital.

Officials said the identity of those responsible for the blast was not immediately known.
