New Delhi, Nov 18 (CMC): Ahead of the Joint Working Group meeting from tomorrow, Bangladesh Home Secretary Monzur Hussain on Friday met Home Minister P Chidambaram and discussed with him security cooperation between the two countries and implementation of land boundary agreement.
Border management and implementation of the pact on demarcation of land boundary and exchange of 162 adversely-held enclaves, which was signed during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Dhaka in September, also figured in the meeting, official sources said.
Earlier, Hossain had half-an-hour meeting with Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai during which the two officials discussed the progress in implementing the decisions relating to the Home Ministries taken during Singh's Bangladesh visit.
The Joint Secretaries of the Home Ministries of both the countries held the preparatory talks today as a prelude to the Home Secretary level JWG talks where several key issues concerning the two countries would be discussed.
Cross-border movement of criminals and terrorists, border management, human trafficking and narcotics smuggling will dominate the JWG meeting.
Efforts to check illegal migration would also be discussed threadbare during the delegation-level talks.
The security officials will also discuss how to check the growing nexus between extremist outfits of the two countries which has become major concern for New Delhi as investigations into several recent terror incidents have found that perpetrators have links in the neighbouring country.
The meeting will also discuss strengthening of cooperation between the two countries on issues relating to Interpol and evolving a mechanism for this.
