New Delhi, Nov. 1 (CMC): The new Director General (DG) of Border Security Force (BSF), U.K. Bansal, on Tuesday said that his department would implement the Centre's decision on repealing the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Jammu and Kashmir, and added that an appropriate decision on the issue will be taken by the government in the larger interest of the country.
Bansal said the BSF would implement the decision on the withdrawal of AFSPA from certain regions of the state.
"An appropriate decision would be taken by the government in the larger interest of the country and the region (Jammu and Kashmir), which has been discussed and BSF will implement it," he said.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government had earlier hinted to revoke the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from some areas in the state.
Bansal further said the infiltration attempts in Jammu and Kashmir has decreased in the last year.
"In J andK (Jammu and Kashmir) our figures reveal that...there are two things, one is the attempt at infiltration and one is actual infiltration. Now, attempted infiltrations during the current year are down from the previous years, that is, the estimate that we have. However, the successful infiltrations are roughly at the same level as the previous years," he added.
Meanwhile, addressing a poser on the migration from Bangladesh border, Bansal said the transgressions at Bangladesh border is different from the one at LOC and is addressed in a different manner.
"Bulk of the transgressions, on the Bangladesh border, are not something that can be described as hardcore anti-India activity, unlike the situation which exists on the LOC (Line of Control) in Kashmir. So, the two are dealt in a very different manner," he added.
