Maya checkmates all adversaries with a single deadly move

In my last editorial, ‘Will Brahmin Card Prove Miraculous for Maya?’, I had suggested that Maya Madam is a meticulous player of politics. This notion has further strengthened at her usage of ‘Division of State’ Card’.

Mayawati has favoured the further division of Uttar Pradesh into four smaller states in the name of development and better living. She announced on Tuesday her desire to carve out Purvanchal, Paschim Pradesh, Awadh Pradesh and Bundelkhand from Uttar Pradesh.

In her four and half years’ tenure as Chief Ministership, she has a couple of times written letters to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, where she raised the issue of division of U.P into smaller states. Dr. Manmohan Singh had also once responded by saying that if Mayawati Govt sends a formal resolution in this regard, the same will be considered and debated. However it is known to all that in the past four and half years’ tenure of Maya at State and Manmohan at the Center, nothing has been done in this direction. It clearly shows the half heartedness of both the parties on the issue.
We must not forget the extreme politics and the hue and cry during the formation of Jharkhand, Chattishgarh and Uttarakhand in the year 2000. Once again the Telangana issue is hot for several months now. But who cares..? As the real loser is the people and not the politicians!

The point of debate over here is, as to ‘Why Maya’s state cabinet didn’t approve the proposal of division of U.P in the past five years?’ Had they done so earlier, perhaps by now India would had 31 states.

Obviously, Maya has once again proved her political astuteness and supremacy of playing her moves. She had kept the state’s ‘Division Card’ safe to be utilized at the right moment with a political ambition. What could have been a better time than this for the present unique move when UP elections are on cards and she is vying to retain the HOT SEAT of U.P for a second consecutive term.

Not only her Cabinet has approved the resolution of further dividing U.P into four states but simultaneously she announced that it will be passed by the state Legislative Assembly and state Legislative Council  in the winter session starting from 21st Nov.

This was probably the right time to throw this politics open that too in the name of development. Now who can dare to over-maneuver her on this issue? Development is the core issue for both Public and Politicians. For the former, it is for better standard of living and for the latter, it is an agenda of better politics.

Maya announced, once the bill is passed in the winter session of the state legislature, it will be sent to the Center for the proper action and the division of the UP state. This means that the ball would then be in the court of the center. Once the ball gets rolling, approval or rejection of the bill will not be an easy task for the Central Government. But both approval, which is most unlikely, and rejection of bill will undoubtedly benefit Maya in her game of politics at this juncture.

Maya knew very well that she had no issues to talk about, no agenda to lure public in the upcoming elections. Except for wearing huge garlands of rupees or roses, erecting her party symbol elephant, on every crossing, developing parks with her own memorials, she has probably done no good to the public of UP. The state shows no sign of development rather it is engulfed in all sorts of corruptions. Therefore at this crucial moment of assembly election Maya needed to break the ‘Chakravyuh’ (mess), created by her own acts of omissions and commissions and wanted to get away of the all out attack from the opposition on account of her government’s failure on every front. To achieve her goal she has tried to mastermind this unique move to checkmate all in a single move.

I will simply say, “well done MAYA! You have probably acted timely and smartly too! But only time will tell, as to whether Maya is smart enough to even befool the people of the Uttar Pradesh!
