Maya hits back Rahul, says Congress responsible for UP's misfortunes

Clean Media Correspondent

New Delhi, November 14 (CMC) The war of words heated up in poll bound Uttar Pradesh as chief minister Mayawati hit back Rahul Gandhi today and said that it was his party that is responsible for the state's backwardness and misfortune of the people of the state.

Mayawati said that Congress has a long history of corruption and added it is completely untrue that she never went to Bundelkhand to ensure development of the region.

Mayawati alleged that it was Congress govt at the centre which was not providing any package to the state for its development despite its repeated demands.

Mayawati's remarks came after the Congress general secretary launched the party's election campaign symbolically from late Jawaharlal Nehru's constituency, by unleashing a scathing attack on her government calling it "corrupt and insensitive".

He also accused the BSP government of diverting funds given by the Centre for development schemes which he alleged went to the pockets ruling party workers and contractors.

"Uttar Pradesh has been going backwards. Nehru was an MP from here but mafia and criminals are MPs from here these days," Gandhi said addressing a Congress rally marking 123rd birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India.
