Rahul used 'Bheek' deliberately or it was slip of tongue

Rahul Gandhi, ‘Yuvraj’ of Congress, ‘future’ of the largest democratic country in the world, a man of high stature, a lad of a ‘royal’ lineage and an insensitive statement, “UP wale, tum log Kab tak Maharashtra mein jakar bheekh mangte rahoge”, perhaps sounds to be an incoherent and unfortunate combination.

But who is to be blamed? Was it the indignation of Rahul Gandhi at the backwardness of Uttar Pradesh or the pressure of wooing the U.Pites in one go, which led him to mouth probably a right word at the wrong place.

His choice of 14th Nov, the birthday of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru may be the right day to invoke the election beguile. The choice of Phulpur, the constituency of his grandfather and the first prime Minister of the nation is equally right but with such a right combination of the things creped in may be an unintentional blunder.

Rahul undoubtedly neither meant to hurt the sentiments of U.Pites nor intended to put them down. It seems, it all just happened but god knows, what is the truth!

It is a well known fact that Rahul’s speeches are written by his counsels.  His team of counsels probably failed to write a sensitive speech. Perhaps they had no issues to talk about, be it corruption or inflation or they did not want to mention these having a guilt feeling.

Congress is in power at the centre as well as in Maharashtra and the accountability and responsibility rests with congress and its ministers to take care of the poverty of the UPites. They chose to play safe on account of corruption and price rise and rather chose migration and underdevelopment as the core issues for addressing the rally in Phulpur. But in trying to play safe, he probably did an unintentional blunder, however many others even suggest it to be a ploy to play rhetoric!

  1. How can it be a slip of tongue at such a preplanned rally?
