UP elections picnic for Soniya family- Mayawati
clean media correspondent

New Delhi, Feb 21: (CMC)   Exuding confidence that the BSP would get a majority on its own in the ongoing Assembly elections, UP Chief Minister Mayawati has said that UP elections have always been a “big picnic” for the Nehru-Gandhi family.
“Brother, sister, mother, and now even brother-in-law come for outings, sometimes with foreign friends,” said Mayawati in an interview to Al Jazeera.
She said Rahul Gandhi was not interested in UP, and was just preparing the ground for the Lok Sabha elections. Asked about her main opponent in the elections, she said: “In different areas of UP, different parties are fighting BSP. People know that the Samajwadi Party will bring back goonda raj. Congress has no vision for UP, they want to milk UP for those 80 parliamentary seats.”
On Rahul’s charge that the funds sent by the Centre were misused by her government, Mayawati said: “The people of the country know the real hand behind the rampant loot of public money. The scams at the Centre have revealed how the ruling party has been involved in massive levels of corruption. Rahul thinks people of UP are fools and beggars. In any case he is not interested in UP, he is running around to do the ground work for 2014 general elections. The Congress has no leadership in the state.”
She said people would vote for the BSP because it had fulfilled its promises.
“In 2007 elections, people voted for us in the hope that we would get rid of goonda raj, as the criminals of SP had made life difficult for them. In the last five years, we have changed that. We have given a government where people feel safe... we gave Dalits a life of dignity.”
