World of Promises

The little poor baby was crying. Her mother could discover no way to console her. How a mother could console a weeping child, if the child asks for the moon and stars of the sky? She had heard her mother singing “agar aasman tak mere haath jate to rahon mein tere sitare bichhate”. After hearing the song she asked the meaning of the song. The mother explained the daughter in her own way. While explaining she said, jo log ek dusre se bahut pyar karte hain, wo unke liye, kuchh bhi kar sakte hain, Yahan tak ki aasman se tare bhi tod kar la sakte hain. The little baby eagerly quipped, if her mother loved her? The moment mamma said, yes! The baby demanded for the moons and stars of the sky to play.
The poor mother finding herself helpless, told the daughter, “Dear, all our problems will be solved, Let the elections come.”
The baby was now keen to know about elections. She wanted to know, if and how elections can fulfill her wishes. The mother explained elections are the time when our leaders move from door to door. They want to know the problems of the common public. They hold big rallies, where they promise to fulfill the demands of every commoner. In such rallies they are prone in highlighting the pros and cons of the opponents. While doing so, they promise to fulfill the basic needs of the public. They draw maps for our houses, electricity facility and other basic amenities. They even give us money, clothes, pouch, and a lot.
With all sorts of such explanations the little baby did not seem to be convinced and satisfied. She asked,  “how  will I get my stars mom.” The mother said, very simple, in next elections when they will come to our house I will ask them to get stars for you. They are bound to promise to do so. If at all they come to power after four and half years of mis-rule they will at least try to chalk out plans, that too in haste to fulfill your dreams.
The baby curiously asked why they don’t come often to our house to solve our problems. The mother though illiterate replied innocently, because they are busy minting money for themselves.

The baby then concluded herself:
Now I got it mom, so the elections are world of promises!

All the five states of the country, going to the elections, are hence facing the problem of hollow promises which hardly would be fulfilled. So, we, the common people must be careful while choosing our representatives. We must cautiously exercise our right to vote. This is the Brahmastra the public has at its disposal.

But the big problem we face is whom to choose. After all, all   appear to be from the same lot, an embodiment of more or less the same types of corruption charges.
What an irony it is, in a country of over 1200 million people, no rightful and truthful peoples’ representative/leader exists!
