Lucknow, Dec 18 (CMC): With eyes on upcoming 2012 state Assembly polls, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that 27 percent quota of OBC should be increased by making constitutional amendment if backward Muslims are included in it.
Addressing a 'Muslim, Kshatriya and Vaishya Mahasammelan meeting', Mayawati said Muslims had considered Congress their benefactor but the party had "betrayed them".
In order to woo the Muslim Community, Mayawati said that riots took place in Mooradabad and Meerut during Congress regime, but BSP has ensured that no such unfortunate incidents takes place.
Hitting out at Congress, the BSP supremo said that Muslims have not been empowered during Congress rule.
She also accused the Congress of being soft towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She said organisations like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal had become "quite active" in the country.
Mayawati condemned the Babri mosque demolition at Ayodhya in December 1992. "The Dec 6 incident, the more it is condemned, it will not be enough," Mayawati said.
Addressing a huge gathering here, Mayawati took pot shots at Samajwadi Party saying that traders were fed up during its rule in 2007. The BSP supremo also said that extornists had a field day during Mulayam Singh’s rule.
The chief minister said that while her government had taken several steps for welfare of Muslims, the Samajwadi Party had virtually no achievements to its credit.
