New Delhi, Dec 19 (CMC): Hundreds of victims of Naxal violence and their family members on Monday staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar here denouncing the extremists and demanding rehabilitation and security.
The protesters, including women, have come to the national capital from the Naxal-hit states of Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar.
"These people have come from Naxal-affected states with demands like uniform compensation for victims of Maoist violence, job opportunities for them and security from Naxalites," Colonel (retd) Jaybans Singh, coordinator for the victims, said.
Most of the protesters have direct or indirectly faced Naxal violence and exploitation while some of them lost their close relatives due to Maoist atrocities.
"Government must eliminate the Naxals as they are evil to the society. They are nothing but killers," Hari Singh, a Chhattisgarh native whose brother was killed by the Maoist, said.
The demonstrators demanded that the Central government provide better and timely security, rehabilitation and jobs to the families of the victims. A memorandum was also sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting his intervention.
The protest was organised at the behest of Naxal Visthapit Seva Sansthan, Chhattisgarh, Prayas Bharti Trust, Bihar, Nagrik Suraksha Samiti, Jharkhand and Udan, Koraput, Orissa.
The group of people also held a candle light vigil at Jantar Mantar yesterday to press for their demands.
