Top Pak General in Lanka on 4-day visit

Clean Media Correspondent

Colombo: Mar 18: (CMC)   A top Pakistani General is on a four-day visit to Sri Lanka during which he will hold talks with the civilian and military leadership of the country and is also expected to visit former LTTE strongholds of Kilinochchi and Trincomalee.

Gen Khalid Shameem Wynne, Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan, is here on the invitation of Sri Lankan Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal WDRMJ Goonetileke, military spokesman Brig Ruwan Wanigasuriya said.
During his four-day stay, the Pakistani General will meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as the country's Defence Secretary, Chief of Defence Staff and the Commanders of all the three services.
The Pakistani Four Star General is expected to visit northern and eastern provinces, including Kilinochchi and Trincomalee areas, during his visit.
Gen Wynne will be the chief guest on the occasion of the launch of Pakistan NDU Alumni Chapter in Sri Lanka, a platform for Sri Lankan officers of all three segments of the armed forces who attended training courses at Pakistan's National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad.
His visit to Sri Lanka assumes significance as the government here banks on Pakistani support at the ongoing UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, where a proposed US- sponsored anti-Colombo resolution is being seen as gross interference in the island nation's domestic affairs.
